The first proper gameplay was criticised for having a bland open-world and overbearingly annoying dialogue, which doesn’t appear to have been rectified judging by this new ad spot. A quick glance at the quoted tweets says it all. Frey takes center stage in Forspoken, exploring an unknown world and facing treacherous trials to unravel the mystery behind Athia. These include plenty of new memes, with a new copy-paste format that has parodied everything from Bloodborne and Metroid to The Sandman and more. Forspoken puts players in the shoes of Frey Holland, an ordinary young woman who must harness her magical abilities to survive in a fantastical and dangerous land called Athia. Whether it was the bad dialogue or actress Ella Ballinska’s line delivery, the gaming community has actively taken to roasting it. Strong Language and Violence are the associated tags, as stated above. The ad opens with narration from Frey stating, “So let me get this straight, I’m somewhere that’s not what I would call Earth… I’m seeing freaking dragons, and… oh yeah, I’m talking to a cuff. However, it does look like the game will borrow one element from modern day live-services and online games: microtransactions. Frey provides a bit of narration over the video which hasn’t gone down well with people. The new ad for Forspoken was posted to the game’s social media recently, revealing a quick 30-second clip of some gameplay with protagonist Frey in action. The latest trailer, however, has sparked quite a bit of conversation online, mainly surrounding its terrible dialogue which the community has openly poked fun at. Square Enix and developer Luminous Productions are steadily trickling new marketing material for the upcoming RPG, Forspoken.
